In
2007, the Stranger's highly acclaimed album "The Invisible Conquest"
was released on Interchill records. A mesmerizing downtempo journey,
brimful with slow cooked over smokin' dub beats, lightly dipped in a
subtle Shpongle sauce, and sprinkled with grains of cheeky tribal playfulness.

EMCH aka scientifik, dub chemist and SUBATOMIC mastermind, draws influence from the sounds and techniques of the past, present, and future. Hailing from the dubious grunge capital of Seattle, he was fascinated from an early age with the innovations of fellow Seattlite Jimi Hendrix, he discovered dub reggae through a brush with Bad Brains and Fugazi that ended in a head on collision with Lee Scratch Perry and King Tubby. Besides being a DIY production junky, Emch is a jazz and classically trained guitarist who earned a post-rock medal of honor distorting guitars alongside artists like 311, The Roots, 24-7Spyz, Col. Bruce Hampton and Eek-a-Mouse while fronting Philly band Scorched Earth Affair and NYC's Fiver. Experimenting with sampling and electronic music in their early forms and multitrack recording with old 70s cassette players before cassette multitracks were even developed, these DIY production techniques finally paid off when combined with more than a decade of experience recording and playing in bands. |
One bright summer Nevada morning back in 2006, Atalay was wandering the desert in a drunken daze, guitar slung over his back, when he ran into Jesse. Jesse, also quite confused from all the heat, carried a drum, and the two just knew there was nothing else they could do to survive the morning sun but kick out a sweet jam. After stumbling out of the desert a week later all dusty and sun burnt, they both realized a shared passion for strumming old folk songs and harmonizing in the wildest of places: cliff sides, mountain tops, on the shores of glacial rivers, and around campfires from BC to California and back. More than a year later, and after many an adventure, they decided to form a band. Other traveling troubadours eventually threw in their lot: Elise tramped around Europe playing fiddle with Irish drinking bands; and ran into Dan at their first gig on New Year's eve at a house party on the Sunshine Coast (perfectly synchronous, as our old bass player couldn't make it and Dan learned all of our songs through a cosmic download just before the set); and Rachel, well, she's Jesse's timelessly talented little sister - who knows where she came from (another planet perhaps?). Together these modern gypsies gather together in rainy Vancouver to form La La Boom Boom in its present incarnation, exploding with rollicking and joyful rock'n roll reminiscent of driving all night through the sunrise to reach a lover in some far off destination.

DJ WOOD has been behind the decks for 15+ years now. Some might consider that a lengthy span, but those who know Wood know he's only just begun. From his studio projects for TwentyHz Music, to his demanding 4 turntable DJ sets alongside partner dj soo, Wood is ready to break into the international scene as a seasoned pro on the wheels of steel. Classically trained at a young age, DJ SOO encountered the art of DJing almost by accident when stumbling upon a performance by the legendary DJ Q-bert at his college many years ago. Originally focusing on his first loves of hiphop beats and drum n bass, DJ SOO eventually decided to eschew traditional genre lines by mixing anything and everything together in a cohesive style. Now considered one of Vancouver's best eclectic DJs, SOO brings the funk - regardless of which genre the funk belongs - to the dancefloor.

SelectaRama Dave O Rama-Lovecast CHLY 101.7 FM
Dave O Rama is a Canadian west coast transplant from Toronto, now celebrating fifteen years in British Columbia, and 12 years in the Vancouver Island community.
Primarily known as a radio DJ and broadcaster, Dave O Rama first explored the airwaves as an apprentice producer for the alternative radio station CFNY FM in Toronto. Still in the pre-digital age, Dave O then decided to devote his free time toward public access community radio. He is an alumni of Toronto community radio station CIUT FM and remains connected as a contributor and as an occasional guest broadcaster with CIUT FM twenty-one years after first joining the station in 1987.
A passionate supporter of public access media, Dave O Rama has been involved with Vancouver Island radio station CHLY 101.7 FM for the past seven years. He is the host and producer of the weekly music program The Lovecast, heard every Saturday evening from 4 to 7 pm. CHLY FM broadcasts at 101.7 FM to southern Vancouver Island, the south coast of British Columbia (including Vancouver), upper Washington State, and streams live to the whole world at www.chly.ca.
A hopeless music junkie, Dave O Rama possesses a voracious musical appetite, "I have a deep love for the magic of music and I possess incredibly eclectic taste, but for The Lovecast I purposely created limitations for myself. The Lovecast broadcasts on Saturday nights, so I tend to keep the vibe focused on the groove. My goal on the show is to pump out a soundtrack to enhance your personal party."
Known to be a radio recluse, Dave O Rama will be making a rare appearance at Diversity in the flesh. As SelectaRama, Dave O will be on hand to lay down a thick carpet of organic party grooves. Expect a sonic caldron of dub funk treats and spicy global beats.

Mike Jevne, aka Soundwarp has been obsessed with music and sound as far back as he can remember. He can actually pinpoint the time when he knew that music would be a dominating factor in his life. At the age of 5, he heard for the first time "Zenyatta Mondatta" and from there the music obsession began. He would go on to train in jazz and classical music and major on the drums. After 2 years of music school and playing both the drums and bass guitar in bands, he chose to delve deep into electronic music. ]In 2001, Mike did his first live electronic music performance (live p.a), using just a drum machine at the Tribeca in Vancouver. Since then, he has gone on to perform at many festivals and clubs around BC.

Socool is all about embracing that which is unique, and isn't afraid to take risks in her music. She doesn't play just one genre or represent just one sound, so you never really know what you're going to get. Sometimes, I think even she might not know. In any case, so far it seems to be working, as Socool was recently voted Best Newcomer DJ from the NWDNB.BC.CA community. DJing has led to producing original music, as it often does. And let me tell you, it is very much true that she enjoys writing songs and having them come to life.

Growing from the dark woods of a secluded island in Canada's stunning Georgia Strait, 24-HOUR Church of Beer evolved slowly, somewhat like mushrooms, or a lager yeast. In the 90's the band had two full drum kit players, including the current Brother Lazarus, and the long lost MC Jamie E (who knows if he's still alive?), former GOB bassist Jamie Fawkes (now of the Excessives and the Denim Demons), and trumpeteer Caleb Johnson. When Fawkes left to join GOB, Rev Tim put down the electric bouzouki in favor of the bass. Former guitarists included Colin (Captain Q) Kent, Paddy O'Rourke (father of DJ Cedar), and Guillaume Bickford. In 1996 the band recorded its first basment effort, "...mmMediciney", which included such favorites as "Prozac", "Bastard", "Sefistikaded Inof" and "Schools' Out". Working with Lex Milton, (formerly of Nanaimo's Amoral Minority), the Church went on to recorded its next uberindie project "Bottle Drive" in 1998. Working in a huge condemned building with no heat in December, in a constant mushroom-and-beer haze, the project wasn't completed untill late in the following year. In 2001, a third session with Milton at his newer What If? Studios basement digs was fraught with technical difficulties, disputes and outright shouting matches, and spelt the beginning of the end of the lineup. Bickford dissapeared deep into the techno DJ woods. The tensions were far from over. When Mutha Superior G joined up in 2003, things were looking up. Gigs were happening, but a series of knee injuries sustained by the Reverend began to frustrate Captain Q. At a show in Seattle (the CD release party for WAD's Clean Livin'), the two nearly came to blows, surprising the locals who had heard all about the bands laid-back pot smokin' ways. Q's priorities bagan to shift, and after some time had passed, the rest of the Church began to settle into a productive period of gigging, writing, and rehearsing. Now a power trio, the COB got a great opportunity to record at Studio V in Seattle, with the Rev's brother Lari at the board. The resulting CD was "The Incredible Impoliteness of Being...", and resulted in the Church signing with Vagrant Records in October 2006. Presently the Church is touring, and working on a new recording with legendary Seattle producer Jack Endino.

Veronica plays on the radio, at clubs, lounges and after-hours clubs, outdoor festivals, fashion shows, and at many lesbian and gay events.
